420* Martensitic Stainless Steel (1.2083 / SUS420J2)

420 martensitic stainless steel (1.2083 / SUS420J2) is a high-chromium stainless steel widely used in plastic mold steel, knife steel, and precision components. It is known for its good corrosion resistance, stable hardness, and excellent polishing performance, making it suitable for both tooling and consumer applications.

With optimized chromium content, this grade provides strong rust resistance, especially in humid and mildly corrosive environments. Its refined microstructure supports smooth surface finishing and mirror polishing, which is critical for plastic molds and high-gloss products.

Compared with general-purpose stainless steels, 420J2 offers a balanced combination of machinability, corrosion resistance, and durability. After proper heat treatment, it delivers stable hardness, good wear resistance, and long service life, making it a reliable and cost-effective solution.

420* Stainless Steel Heat Treatment Process

Annealing

Softens the steel to approximately HB 255, relieving internal stress and improving machinability.

Quenching

Heat to around 1025°C, followed by controlled cooling to obtain a stable pre-hardened structure.

Tempering

Temper at approximately 510°C, achieving 29–34 HRC. For higher hardness requirements, additional heat treatment can reach 50–52 HRC, improving wear resistance and durability.

Yes. For first-time cooperation, we can provide a limited quantity of samples for verification (such as grade confirmation, machining trials, or heat-treatment evaluation). Samples can be shipped by international courier, and the courier cost is paid by the buyer. We value honest cooperation and look forward to a long-term win-win partnership.

Our common international payment methods include T/T and L/C. For trade terms, we can also support options such as DDU based on the order. The final payment method and terms can be confirmed according to your country/region, order value, and delivery method.
