1.4024 Martensitic Stainless Steel (X15Cr13 / 410)

1.4024 martensitic stainless steel, also known as X15Cr13 or 410 stainless steel, is a practical engineering stainless steel widely used in valves, shafts, fasteners, turbine parts, and general mechanical components. It provides a reliable balance of mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and heat resistance, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.

After proper heat treatment, 1.4024 can achieve good mechanical properties, including high strength, stable hardness, and useful impact resistance. This makes it a dependable choice for parts that must work under moderate corrosion, mechanical load, and elevated temperature conditions.

Compared with austenitic stainless steels, 1.4024 offers higher strength and better wear performance after heat treatment. Compared with higher-carbon martensitic grades, it provides better toughness and easier processing, making it a cost-effective material for many engineering uses.

It also provides good oxidation and scaling resistance up to about 649°C, which supports reliable performance in applications exposed to moderate heat.

1.4024 Stainless Steel Heat Treatment Process

Annealing

Heat to 750–800°C, then cool slowly in the furnace to improve machinability and reduce internal stress.

Quenching

Heat to 980–1030°C, then oil quench or air cool to form a hardened martensitic structure.

Tempering

Temper at 700–750°C to improve toughness, mechanical stability, and service reliability.
