W6Mo5Cr4V2Co2 (M2 Modify) is a custom-developed high-speed steel independently designed and produced by ZEICIN Steel. This grade is specially engineered for cutting tools and tooling applications that require high wear resistance, strong edge stability, and good heat resistance under demanding production conditions.

As an upgraded and optimized version of conventional M2, M2 Modify is designed to perform reliably in continuous machining, high-load cutting, and thermal shock environments. It delivers stable, long-term performance where standard grades may suffer from rapid wear or heat cracking.

Compared with standard M2 grades, W6Mo5Cr4V2Co2 (M2 Modify) focuses on controlled wear behavior and reliable toughness rather than extreme cutting speed. Its optimized cobalt content improves edge strength and hot hardness, while the balanced alloy design helps reduce tool wear and improve cutting stability.

In addition, its anti heat-cracking performance makes it suitable for cutting tools exposed to repeated heating and cooling cycles. As a ZEICIN in-house grade, both chemical composition and product size can be customized to meet specific tooling requirements.

W6Mo5Cr4V2Co2 (M2 Modify) Heat Treatment Process

Annealing

Softens W6Mo5Cr4V2Co2 (M2 Modify) steel (HB ~255), relieves internal stress, and improves machinability before hardening.

Quenching

Heat to 1200–1220 °C, followed by rapid cooling to achieve high hardness and wear resistance, locking in the steel’s performance.

Tempering

Temper at approximately 550 °C after quenching to balance hardness and toughness, reduce residual stress, and reach a final hardness of 63–67 HRC.
