High-Speed Steel DF5 / W5Mo2Cr4V2Co

DF5 / W5Mo2Cr4V2Co is a custom-developed cobalt-alloy tool and die steel independently designed by ZEICIN Steel. This grade is optimized for low-speed cutting, forming, and die applications where stable performance, edge strength, and wear resistance are critical.

Unlike conventional high-speed steels designed for extreme cutting speeds, DF5 / W5Mo2Cr4V2Co focuses on controlled wear behavior and toughness under continuous operation. Its balanced alloy design provides reliable heat stability, good resistance to edge chipping, and consistent performance in demanding industrial environments.

This steel is widely used in metalworking, forming, and tooling operations that require long service life and predictable performance rather than maximum cutting speed.

Annealing

Softens DF5 / W5Mo2Cr4V2Co steel (HB ~255), relieves internal stress, and improves machinability prior to hardening.

Quenching

Heat to 1150–1200 °C, followed by rapid cooling to obtain high hardness and good wear resistance.

Tempering

Temper at approximately 550 °C after quenching to balance hardness and toughness, reduce residual stress, and achieve a final hardness of 63–66 HRC.
