Spray Forming F865 High-Speed Steel is a high-performance wear-resistant cutting tool steel developed by ZEICIN. It is designed for applications requiring high wear resistance, good toughness, and stable cutting performance, especially under high load and continuous operation conditions.

Based on an optimized alloy system similar to M35+V (F835), F865 enhances carbide distribution, edge strength, and hot performance, resulting in improved tool life and cutting stability. It is ideal for heavy-duty cutting tools and industrial tooling applications.

Produced using advanced spray forming technology, the steel features a fine-grain microstructure with uniformly distributed carbides, which significantly reduces segregation and improves wear resistance, edge retention, and consistency compared with conventional high-speed steels.

Compared with general-purpose grades such as M2 and M35 high-speed steel, F865 provides better toughness and wear resistance, allowing reliable performance in abrasive environments and high-stress machining condition

Priniple of Spray Forming

  • First, the raw materials are heated into molten metal, and then gas atomized.

  • Under the action of the gas jet, the droplets are accelerated to fly and rapidly cooled.

  • When the high-speed flying droplets collide in the precipitator, the spherical particles are impacted. It becomes flat to form a sputtering sheet.

  • The particles solidify rapidly through the cooling effect of the precipitator, and accumulate and form under the action of self- fluxing.

Spray Forming F865 Heat Treatment Process

Annealing

Softens the steel to approximately HB 269, improving machinability and relieving internal stress.

Quenching

Heat to 1170–1205°C, followed by rapid cooling to achieve high hardness and wear resistance.

Tempering

Temper at 550–570°C to balance hardness and toughness. Final hardness: 64–67 HRC
