Spray Forming DF6Co2 High-Speed Steel is a high-performance wear-resistant tool steel specially developed for planer knives and continuous cutting applications. It provides excellent wear resistance, edge stability, and long tool life, making it ideal for demanding industrial environments.

Produced using advanced spray forming technology, the steel has a fine-grain microstructure and uniformly distributed carbides. This significantly reduces carbide segregation and improves cutting stability, edge retention, and consistency compared with conventional high-speed steels.

Unlike general-purpose high-speed steels such as M2 or M42, DF6Co2 is optimized for wear resistance rather than extreme cutting speed. It performs reliably under continuous cutting, high load, and abrasive conditions, especially in woodworking and industrial planer knife applications.

Priniple of Spray Forming

  • First, the raw materials are heated into molten metal, and then gas atomized.

  • Under the action of the gas jet, the droplets are accelerated to fly and rapidly cooled.

  • When the high-speed flying droplets collide in the precipitator, the spherical particles are impacted. It becomes flat to form a sputtering sheet.

  • The particles solidify rapidly through the cooling effect of the precipitator, and accumulate and form under the action of self- fluxing.

Spray Forming DF6Co2 Heat Treatment Process

Annealing

Softens the steel to about HB 255, improving machinability and relieving internal stress.

Quenching

Heat to 1180–1205°C, followed by rapid cooling to achieve high hardness and wear resistance.

Tempering

Temper at 540–570°C to balance hardness and toughness. Final hardness: 64–67 HRC
