M3:2 High-Speed Steel (P23 Jet High-Speed Steel)

M3:2 (P23 Jet High-Speed Steel) or M3/2 is a high-performance tungsten-molybdenum family high-speed steel characterized by high hardness, excellent wear resistance and retention of the cutting edge at elevated temperatures. Its greater content of molybdenum and vanadium than traditional high-speed steels yield better abrasion resistance, edge retention, and thermal stability. These characteristics render M3:2 particularly well-suited for high-extreme-wear applications, such as precision cutting tools and heavy-duty machining. ASP 2023 is a universal steel number for the remaining world for industrial markets.

P23 Jet High-Speed Steel (HSS) is a high-grade powder high-speed steel that is designed for demanding applications requiring superior performance over time. This steel is produced in our factory through two innovative processes:

  1. RS ESR Directional Solidification Electroslag Remelting: This process ensures high-quality consistency and directional control.
  2. Spray Forming: Produces a flat powder, improving efficiency and therefore performance.

M3:2 High-Speed Steel Heat Treatment Process

The heat treatment process significantly enhances M3:2 high-speed steel’s hardness, wear resistance, and toughness. The standard heat treatment process includes Annealing, Quenching, and Tempering:

Process Step Temperature Range Key Details Result/Target
Annealing 820°C – 860°C – Slow furnace cooling to relieve internal stress
– Improves machinability
Maximum Brinell Hardness: 280 HB
Quenching Preheating Stages:
400°C, 850°C, 1050°C
Austenitizing: 1190°C – 1230°C
– Preheating in stages
– Oil, air, or warm bath quenching (550°C)
– Ensures uniform hardness
Uniform Hardness
Tempering 540°C – 570°C – Conducted at least three times
– Balances hardness and toughness
Final Hardness: 64-66 HRC
